How you get on a boat
Applications go in on one form. In the event of too many applications for spots allowed, there will be a random drawing to fill spots available. One entry per person; multiple entries will be screened out.
Where things stand
All available spots for the 2026 event were filled as of May 1, 2026; in the event someone cancelled, another application would be drawn from the pile.
Applications in, names drawn, phone calls out
Selected individuals are notified with a phone call, so put a number you answer on the form.
Applications are due in by April 15. First round drawing will be done on April 20. Calls start going out the following week, and the organisers try to have everyone notified by May 1st. Selected individuals will be notified with a phone call.
In the event selected individuals decline or call back and cancel, the organisers continue to draw and call until all spots are full.
At the 2026 event, check in started at 0500, and local people were welcome to show up as a stand-by with no guarantee of ending up on a boat.

All participants receive a T-Shirt and admittance to the luncheon and awards ceremony.
Your Michigan fishing license
Selected participants sort this out themselves before the day.
Participants must purchase a fishing license before the event; a day license is $10 for Michigan residents and non-residents, available on the Michigan DNR Hunt Fish App or website, or at any local retailer.
Canteen Cup teams
Randomly selected West Michigan area VFW’s, Legion’s and Clubs submit a 4 person team.
Canteen Cup applicants need a form — contact the organisers for one. Last year’s winners will be invited back to defend their title.
